WASH Specialist & Engineer
Khuzwayo is a Civil and Environmental Engineer with over seven years of experience working in improving access to Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) services. He has experience across seven countries including Tajikistan, Kenya, Ghana, Bangladesh, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and his native country Zambia. He has a particular interest in sanitation in urban low-income settings.
Khuzwayo works as an Urban WASH Specialist and Engineer. In this role, he leads and contributes to a wide range of projects, including leading the technical assessment for a situational analysis of city-wide inclusive sanitation (CWIS) in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, for UNICEF; Providing ongoing technical support on WASH monitoring and evaluation to the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation Safe Water Initiative; and Developing and testing a methodology for integrity assessments in CWIS/Sanitation regulatory frameworks on behalf of the Water Integrity Network.
Khuzwayo's prior experience includes working as a Project Implementation Engineer for the Lusaka Water Supply and Sanitation Company's Lusaka Sanitation Program in Zambia. He played a key role in the US$300 million project CWIS project that significantly improved sanitation infrastructure in Lusaka.
Khuzwayo holds a distinction (summa cum laude) in his Master's degree in Sanitation from IHE Delft Institute for Water Education. His thesis on gender-based violence and sanitation in urban slums earned him the Best MSc Thesis Award in Sanitation for the 2021-2022 cohort.
