Reychel Sanchez Martinez joins Aguaconsult

October 12, 2021

Hi all,

My name is Reychel Sanchez Martinez, and I am the newest addition to the Aguaconsult team!

My home is in Costa Rica, where I was born and where I have spent most of my life (so far), but I am now based in the UK. After graduating as Environmental Engineer, I lived for 5 years in Costa Rica supporting community-based organizations, local governments, and public utilities in water, sanitation, and solid waste in various Central and Latin American countries on technical and managerial aspects. My role as a consultant entailed assessing and evaluating the performance of water systems and wastewater treatment units, providing design plans, and directly conducting operation and maintenance training of the utility operators. I also developed in-house projects with Fundacion Aliarse and the Alliance for Recycling, using Behavioural Economic principles to increase households and business participation in municipal recycling programmes in Costa Rica.

There, I gained a good understanding of utility service arrangements and witnessed first-hand the financial constraints faced by utilities and the broader environment within which they operate. This made me realise how systemic service delivery was.

Joining Aguaconsult is a wonderful opportunity for me to gain further experience on the WASH field and build my current skills. I am thrilled to be part of this engaging company and work alongside Harold, Julia, Goufrane, Bill, Elise, Melissa, and Tony. I expect to learn a lot and contribute to improving the WASH sector, by bringing my practical experience of utility management to the water and sanitation sectors.

I am looking forward to meeting Aguaconsult clients, partners and friends and getting the opportunity to collaborate.
