Data knowledge and management

We support global and national efforts to improve data collection, analysis and use through knowledge generation and management, especially to track progress towards the Sustainable Development Goal 6 targets.
We help identify indicators for the sector and to harness the positive contribution of rapidly developing information and communications technologies that can improve service delivery outcomes and maximise investment potential, whilst at the same time being viable for use in local and national WASH systems, often facing resource constraints.

  • Global Analysis and Assessment of Sanitation and Drinking-Water (GLAAS); WHO: Support the roll-out of the UN Water survey in 14 African countries.
  • Review National Wetlands Inventories; RAMSAR: Gap analysis of countries’ data on the extent of wetlands (SDG 6.6.1) and development a toolkit to facilitate reporting. Read more.
  • Alliance Sahel; WHO: technical assistance to five countries in the Sahel region for formulating a roadmap to improve national monitoring systems linked to the attainment of SDG 6.
