Will Tillett

Will is a Water, Sanitation & Hygiene (WASH) specialist with 14 years’ experience spanning seventeen countries. His various posts have taken him from field research and site engineering to undertaking global evaluations and advising governments and donors on sector policy. This diversity in roles, together with eight-years in-country experience, gives Will both a holistic perspective of the sector, together with a strong grounding in the realities of programme delivery.

Will’s experience spans rural, urban, humanitarian and development contexts, in Africa, Asia, Europe and Latin America.  He holds an MSc in Water Management (Community Water Supply), a BSc in Geology & Geography, and he is a visiting lecturer at Exeter University (UK).

Will was a principal WASH consultant at Aguaconsult from 2016 - 2020, working on a mix of assignments, from global studies and evaluations for the World Bank, BMGF, and UNICEF, to more applied projects, reviewing programmes and providing technical assistance for clients such as FCDO and WaterAid. He was an active member of Agenda for Change and produced numerous global guidance materials on applying WASH systems approaches in various contexts. In 2020 Will transitioned off full-time employment at Aguaconsult to become United Purpose’s new Global Wash Advisor and continues to be an Aguaconsult Associate.

Will’s strengths lie in strategy and programme design, technical assistance, training, programme management, and evaluations. He is particularly specialized in WASH systems approaches, and has a keen interest in markets-based approaches, nutrition-sensitive programming and applying development principles in fragile states.
